The Big Hike

Today was a wonderful day in Peru!  So the clinic was closed today so we decided to take a 3 hour hike through the desert to a beautiful waterfall.  It’s amazing to see how God created everything so differently yet so beautifully.  Today is a BIG holiday celebrating the foundation of the city we are staying in.  Apparently it’s so big it’s second to Christmas and to give you an idea of how crazy the city is, it’s like New York City on New Year’s Eve night.  So, that being said, we stayed way away from the city.  Eleven of us left at 7 in the morning to catch a couple buses to a town about an hour away.  We then started our journey through the desert.  The hike took about 2 and a half hours until we got to a little creek at the bottom of a canyon.  We walked this for about 45 minutes until we came to a beautiful waterfall!! God is so amazing and so creative with everything he made.  Pictures can’t even show the beauty of it all.  We stayed at the fall for about 45 minutes, ate lunch, then headed back.  Despite our legs and arms being covered in bug bites (even though we applied bug spray about 10 times), we had an amazing time.  When we got back to the city, we bought some delicious ice cream and waited to catch our bus back to our home.

Becca, Chris, Sam, Jodee (our mentor), Adrienne, Jess (2 girls from Arcadia college), and Kelly (a PT from New Jersey) are in a different city right now handing out assistive devices to the people there. We haven’t heard from them yet but we hope they are staying warm and sick free!! Please continue to pray for them as they begin their 4 hr journey back tomorrow morning.

Please continue to pray for the physical and spiritual healing of all the people we will be serving.  It’s hard to believe we have already been here a week.  Time is flying by so fast! :(

God bless <3
Courtney
